Tonight (Tuesday June 20th) from 6pm-7 pm the City of Encinitas will be holding a community meeting about the upcoming El Portal pedestrian and bike Underpass. The meeting will be at City Hall.

The underpass is located adjacent to Paul Ecke Central Elementary and will provide a much-needed pedestrian pathway connecting the east and west sides of Leucadia.

Background
The El Portal Underpass is a pedestrian/bike underpass (like at Swami's) that will connect our 101 business corridor/beaches/friends with the schools/parks/friends east of the tracks. It will be connected safely on the west near El Portal (north of Leucadia Glass) and on the east at Union Street.

This project will feed in perfectly with the N. Coast Highway 101 Streetscape project.

Tonight is the first of two chances to provide feedback on the goals and objectives of the El Portal Underpass. Your input is important to ensure that this feature matches the needs and character of our community.

Make sure your input is received even if you are unable to attend tonight's meeting by emailing the project consultant Christy Villa at cvilla@hochconsulting.com.

If you would like to receive personal updates on creating a more bikeable and walkable Leucadia please email info@leucadia101mainstreet.com and they will add you to the list.

Hey all,

We will be holding our monthly meeting next THURSDAY (June 1st) at 5:30 pm at our regular meeting location (605 Third Street, Encinitas). We will be discussing the Coastal Rail Trail again, among other things. Our mayor Catherine Blakespear will be joining us to discuss the Coastal Commission’s recent decision to locate the Coastal Rail Trail east of the tracks through Cardiff, and how our group can be involved in the process to ensure that project meets the needs of our community as well as regional users. For those of you who attended last month’s meeting with SANDAG, this will be a nice “Part 2” discussion, and we are lucky to have our mayor as a guest.

Hope to see you next Thursday!
